The current national GP contract provides for your care during the week from Monday to Friday 8 am to 3.30 pm on a daily basis. Outside of these hours, i.e. after 6.30 pm at night and before 8 am in the morning, all weekend and all bank holidays are covered by the out of hours (OOH) service
The service is based in the emergency department at Warwick hospital. Please remember that the service is there for problems which are urgent and cannot wait until we ourselves are open. When you call, you will be triaged by a nurse, who will either:
- Offer advice over the phone
- Arrange for you to be seen at a convenient location
- Arrange a visit by a specially trained ambulance paramedic
- In exceptional circumstances arrange for a doctor to visit. Please note this is only available for the very ill housebound palliative care patients.
The out of hours numbers is:
Please be ready to explain your symptoms and have a list of your medicines to hand, to get the most out of this service. Remember the operator you speak to will not have your medical records and will not have a list of your medicines.
The nearest hospital is the Alexandra Hospital in Redditch, and is approximately 8 miles away. If your problem is very urgent, we suggest you go there immediately, but please only do this is you honestly feel that the problem cannot wait whilst you travel to the OOH centre at Warwick Hospital.
